Interesting Names

A collection of interesting names I've observed:

Banks -- China Communication Bank, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China (Alice said that these names don't denote specialized banking, they just sound good to Chinese citizens), Suzhou Rural Petty Finance Company, China Everbright Bank

Restaurants -- "Let's Go!" Restaurant

Nightclubs/bars: "100% Boiling"

Businesses: "Fast-paced World Flower Shop", "Three Gun Living Concept" (men's underwear shop, a brand comparable to Hanes), "hairdressing chamber", "A-list Plastic Clinic" (plastic surgeon?), "Walmart Pretty Shopping Center", "Gruel Store", a convenience store

Food -- Floss meat pie (a bun with finely shredded pork on top), steamed fungus (mushrooms), garupa fillets (grouper?), "Bimbo" (brand name of white sliced bread)

more to come...

I'm having such a good time with the language -- the ways in which the Chinese use English and translate it. Please understand that I am not making fun or mocking. Most Chinese know far more English than I know their language. I simply delight in some of the strange and wonderful images and ideas that arise from their enthusiastic and unrestrained use of English.

My collection is growing.
