South Cathedral of Catholic

One of my favorite things to do when I visit a foreign country is to attend mass. Paige and I made arrangements, after much negotiation by our tour guides with a taxi company, to attend 6am mass at the South Cathedral. This was the first Catholic church established in Beijing, in the 1400's.

The experience of sharing mass in Chinese was very moving. The entire service was chanted and sung, and we knelt for most of it. I found it interesting that the large portrait of the Virgin Mary, hung behind the altar, was framed in neon. - Peggy
